The Staten Island Center for Independent Living, Inc., is a non-residential resource center that offers services to individuals with disabilities of all ages, their families, significant others, teachers, employers, businesses, and those who believe that an individual with a disability has the right to take responsibility for his/her own life.
The center is unique in that it is primarily staffed and governed by professionals who have had a personal experience with a disability and believe that disability does not mean inability.
We:
- Provide benefits counseling.
- Provide counseling regarding housing.
- Provide peer support groups to individuals who are blind/low vision.
- Provide peer support groups to women with disabilities who have been victims of abuse. (Domestic Violence Group)
- Provide peer support groups for individuals who are living with disabilities.
- Provide vocational counseling.
- Provide Social Skills/Support Groups to adolescents with disabilities.
- Provide computer training to individuals with disabilities. (Computer Classes)
- Provide sensitivity training to community agencies, school and hospital personnel.
- Provide cooking classes to individuals with disabilities that also incorporate nutrition into meal planning. (Nutrition Group)
- Provide peer support women’s empowerment. (Women’s Group)
- Provide peer support for individuals who have suffered the loss of a loved one. (Grief Group)
